The design approach is pretty straightforward and simple. The client had framed the basic requirements and the design was done to sufficiently meet them.The intention to instill some tamil element in the interiors led to the use of Athangudi tiles which are colourful and as well as add charater to the interiors.Sufficient amount of sunlight was let into the building, the interiors were brightly lit using the natural as well as artificial light. The idea was to brighten up the interiors to create comfort in learning. The materials used in the interiors were mostly wood and gypsum. One other interesting element in the interiors is the design of handrails, the handrails were given some interesting patterns, so as to initiate the children to play around them, where the element acts as a catalyst in involving the children with their surroundings. The colour palette was mostly to pastel rainbow colours. The furniture in the classrooms included open racks, benches, all of the same colour palette. Another interesting feature in the interiors is that the partition walls between the classrooms are about 5’5” tall and the remaining is glass. The glass at the top helps in creating a continuity between the classrooms, it was provided to make the user feel that the ceiling extends throughout the entire floor without any disturbance. The lounge was to be spacious to accommodate seating for the parents to meet the teachers and discuss.
