AADLESAN RESIDENCE 

First of all we are sincerely thanking Mrs and Dr aadalessan and family for wanting to have a house with traditional and natural materials with a contemporary outlook.. we are indebted to them for ever till I die for the trust they had in me and my entire team..

I also thank ar Thomson siby and ar seethapathy ar Bhavya ar vengatesh and the team of Architects for working sincerely and efficiently in researching and exploring materials and spaces along with Mrs and Dr aadalessan s.

பாரம்பரிய கலையை ( Traditional style ) நவீனமயமாக்கும் முயற்சியில் உண்டாகி வரும் ஆடல் ஈசன் இல்லத்தின் இறுதி படங்களை பதிவு செய்வதற்கு முன் ஒரு விரிவுரை.

பல அரை திரை தடுப்பின்றி ( Separation by walls ) உருவான இந்த வீட்டில் சிற்பங்கள் சிதறி பார்பவரை எங்கும் அமர செய்து ரசிக்க வைக்கும் திறன் கொண்டது.

வீட்டிற்கும் தெருவிற்கும் இடையே ஒரு வெள்ளை கோட்டை தடுப்பின்றி சுற்று சுவர்களில் இருக்கும் துளைகள்( Perforated ) வீட்டில் இருப்பவரின் திறந்த உள்ளதை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றது

செயற்கை வெளிச்சம் மற்றும் காற்று தேவையின்றி வீட்டில் பச்சை முற்றங்கள் ( Green court ) படர்ந்து இருக்கின்றது.

மறுபயன்பாடு கட்டுமான பொருட்கள் ( Reusable building material ) கொண்டு வீட்டின் வெளி சுவர்கள் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

பச்சை சூழ் அகவெளி ( Green court ) இயற்கை காற்றையும் வெளிச்சத்தையும் வீட்டின் உள்ளே செலுத்துகின்றது

நார்காளிகளுக்கு வேலையின்றி வீட்டின் அமைப்பிலேயே உட்கார் வடிவங்கள் ( Seaters ) அமர உதவுகின்றது.
வீட்டின் நுழைவாயில் அம்மாவின் படுக்கையறை பல கண்ணாடி ஜன்னல்களை கொண்டு வீட்டில் நடக்கும் அனைத்து நிகழ்ச்சிகளையும் கண்காணிக்கும் வகையில் அமைந்துள்ளது.

அம்மாவின் அறையில் இருந்து தனியாக பச்சை அகவெளி அமைத்து அவர்களை புத்துணர்ச்சி தருகின்றது.

வீட்டின் உள்ளெ அனைவரும் அன்பை பகிரும் வண்ணம் இருக்கின்றது.

வீட்டின் தரையில் ஆதங்குடியினரின் கைவண்ணத்தில் ஆன ஆதங்குடி ஓடுகள்( Athangudi Tiles ) பதிக்கப்பட்டு அழகு சேர்கின்றது.

ஆங்காங்கே வெள்ளை மற்றும் கருப்பு நிற வண்ண ஓடுகள் பதிக்கப்பட்டு பார்பவரை சிந்திக்க வைக்கிறது.

நுண்ணிய துளை செங்கல் ( Porotherm Bricks ) வீட்டின் சுற்று சுவர்களில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

நடுநிலை படுத்தி எதையும் அடிக்கோடிட்டு காட்ட முடியாத வகையில் அனைத்தும் சிறப்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

வீட்டின் குடும்ப அரை இரட்டை உயர தளத்துடன் ( Double height ceiling ) அமைந்துள்ளது.
களிப்பறைகளுக்கு பெங்களூரு படிவ துளைகள்( Bangalore Jaali ) மற்றும் சில சுவர்களுக்கு தேனி கல் முழுவதும் வெளிப்படும் ( Exposed ) வண்ணம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

முழுவதும் வெளிப்படும் கான்கிரீட் ( Exposed Concrete ) சுவர்களும் மங்கல் சிவப்பாய் இருக்கிற ஓடுகளும் ( Terracotta Tiles ) கண்களுக்கு காட்சி பலம் ( Visual strength ) சேர்கின்றது.

A house that is bringing traditional style in a modernistic way.

A house that is not been separated by walls and beholds the person with beautiful sculptures laid all around the house

The perforations on the walls helps in breaking the visual barrier between the inside and outside

The green court all around the house reduces the use of artificial sunlight and air by providing abundant natural light and ventilation.

Reusable building materials are used to make the buildings breathe.

Concrete seaters flows along with the building enclosure neglecting the use of furniture.

The mom’s bedroom is placed on the entrance such that she monitors the activities of the house and can take part in every event.

The court flows in her bedroom providing a place to ease and relax in harmony.

The floors of the house are an ideal make of the ATHANGUDI TILES with patterns of yellow patterns of white and grey falls in abstract at places making the observer question on the position

Porotherm brick is reused on the compound walls adding beauty to the exterior view on the street.

Every aspect is being detailed to perfection

The family space has a double height ceiling, the walls of the toilet having Bangalore jaali works and certain walls with THENI KAL that adds beauty.

The combination of exposed concrete walls and terracotta tiles gives visual strength to the viewers.

Mr & Mrs Balakrishnan Residence at Kumarapalayam

Mr.Balakrishnan, Mrs.Nandhini and their daughter a family of three, decided to design a exquisite home for their elderly parents in Kumarapalayam a small town near Bhavani. They wanted the house to be a beautiful residing spot for their parents, it should also serve as a wonderful vacation place when they visit from Muscat. They have lots of cousins and relatives around the same town, so their concentration is more on family space than formal living. Different types of age groups, elderly people who like to converse with Mr.Balakrishnan’s parents, mid age group members who tend to be of the same age group as Mr.Balakrishnan and Mrs.Nandhini, Young teens like their daughter and her cousins. The house should serve as a comfortable space for all such age groups. Their main demand was to ensure security since elderly families only lived around. So the house was well secured by various courtyards. The external courtyards were covered by pergolas. They are also nature loving people but they didn’t want much greenery inside the house for easy maintenance, so external space around the house was beautifully landscaped by Mr.Jeyakumar landscape architect. The front part has an entry pavilion and a small lily pond where his parents could have a walk, sit and relax briefly. Similarly the car parking area is beautifully done so as to accommodate social gatherings. The space will act as a social setting were men would like to sit and have nice conversations. A beautiful garden in the front were children can play. Ground floor contains two bedrooms. The house also serves for Mr.Balakrishnan’s younger sister who visits from Salem during family gatherings, and for her children who can have great vacations at their grandparents house. Mr.Balakrishnan’s brother in law can also spend remarkable time with his friends in thinnai, courtyard and other spaces which retains privacy. The family room is also visually connected to Mr.Balakrishnan’s sister room. Her room has a courtyard inside the toilet which imparts natural light. A small office is in the front portion which can also be used as a small boutique. Mr.Balakrishnan’s mom is a very religious person so a serene puja room with a sunken court is provided with garden all around. The garden above car parking provides splendid views and vistas. Double height space provides visual connection between floors inside the house. The family room is also visually connected to Mr.Balakrishnan’s sister room. The dream home having a contemporary elevation with huge cantilevers which shades the front area, and also acts as hangout space for people.

SUDHAKAR RESIDENCE

SUDHAKAR RESIDENCE AT Chennai #perungudi We would like to thank Mr.Sudhakar & Mrs.Sumithra for giving us the opportunity to design their dream house. They gave us flexibility in design to execute their vision. Their involvement in the design process was crucial to the success of the design. . . . . . . . This residence in perungudi is designed with exposed brickwork in combination with green courts . The entrance welcomes with a hard landscape having the car park that can also act as a party space. The living hall is embedded with seatings representing THINNAI in traditional style. The living is extended with the green court beside which has long slits that act in bringing in lot of natural light and air and also ensure privacy to the members in the residence. There is a glimpse of the kitchen from the living. A set of experiments such as the system of water from the zen garden in the master bedroom to the Koi pond below the metal staircase flowing between the office space and the use of pergolas with rods on the longer span ensures beauty in the residence. There is a multi level play in the sons bedroom leading out to the lounge having a playful hammock space as his son stays active always. The terrace leads with a green garden below the metal and brick weaved staircase to the party space with seatings and green landscape in the terrace. The house on the over whole is a experimented craft with newness in material and techniques. பெருங்குடியில் அமைந்துள்ள இந்த வீட்டில் முழுவதுமாக வெளிப்படும் ( Exposed Brick) பச்சை முற்றங்கள் ( Green court) உடன் இணைந்து அழகு சேர்கின்றது. வீட்டின் நுழைவு வருபவரை வரவேற்கும் வண்ணம் கற்களுடன் கூடிய இயற்கையும் ( Hard landscape) உறவினர்கள் கூடி மகிழும் சபை இடம் ( Gathering space) இரும்புகுதிரையின் இடத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. வீட்டின் சரியோத்த அறை (Living room) பல திண்ணை வடிவில் உட்கார் படிவங்களும் அதனுடன் நீண்டு நிற்கும் பச்சை முற்றங்களும் (Green courts) வெளிச்சுவர்களில் நிலைக்குத்து துளைகளும் வீட்டின் உள்ளே அதிக இயற்கை வெளிச்சத்தையும் காற்றையும் ஓட செய்கின்றது. சரியோத்த அறையில் இருந்து சமையல் அறையின் ஒரு பாகத்தை பார்த்து மேலும் பார்க்க தூண்டும் வகையில் இருக்கின்றது. வீட்டின் படிக்கெட்டின் கீழ் மீன் குளம் (Koi pond) படுக்கையறையில் உள்ள முற்றங்களில் இருந்து வேலையிடம் வழியே வந்து இணைகிறது. மேலும் நீண்டு நிற்கும் மூங்கில் குழல் காம்புகள் மேற்மட்டத்தில் (Bamboo pergolas) அமைந்து சூரிய ஒளியை முற்றங்களில் வரவேற்கின்றது. வீட்டின் முதல் தளத்தில் ஊஞ்சற்ப்படுகை (Hammock) அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. மேற்கூரைக்கு செல்லும் படிக்கெட்டு இரும்பு சட்டத்தினுடன் கூடிய துளை செங்கல் ( Porous Brick) பச்சை முற்றங்களுடன் சேர்ந்து மாயம் செய்கின்றது. மொத்தத்தில் இந்த வீடு நல்ல செயற்கை கைதிறன் கொண்டு அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
