UDHAVUM KARANGAL - SRI GAYATHRI MEDICAL MISSION HOSPITAL AT THIRUVERKADU

SRI GAYATHRI MEDICAL MISSION & RESEARCH FOUNDATION, THIRUVERKADU
"An unaided mind is vulnerable to many diseases, which can be compensated with the beauty of nature."
Healing comes when we choose to walk away from the darkness and choose to move towards light.

While shelter is a natural and instinctive aspect of people, artificial environments of the past 40 years have led to the “sick building syndrome”. Landscape design integrated is done to improve the environment of the space in addition to the light and shadow patterns.
Sri Gayathri Medical mission & research foundation is built upon a land of approx. 1.5 acres land at Thiruverkadu, Chennai district. The main goal was to consciously design spaces which create a soothing and relaxing effect for the visitors as a deviation from the design of a typical hospital.

The general mission of Sri Gayathri Medical mission & research foundation is to attend to the physical and emotional needs of the patients. The design is enhanced by integrating multiple naturally sunlit courtyards which aids the healing process in a compassionate way.
Hospital initiates in the “growing integration” of advanced workflow optimization into the early stages of facility design and construction process. While shelter is a natural and instinctive aspect of people, artificial environments of the past 40 years have led to the sick building syndrome. “True comfort” is a flexible environment that gives people the ability to control it.

The fluidic lines used bring a sense of flow and energy to a room and make it a harmonious feature. Every curve frames the stylish outdoor area as an introduction to the modern indoors. Curved walls used at the entrance acts as a welcoming gesture to symbolize hospitality.
The vertical connect of spaces and the light wells inside are designed specifically to foster visual connectivity to all levels and to stream in natural daylight creating an interesting play of light patterns throughout the day thus providing healing to the infirms. A splash of color is added to the walls to break the monotony and create a playful environment . The slender exposed concrete columns holding the bold mass creates a visual contrast to the white-painted walls.

Exposed concrete structure allows unlimited colour and texture options which helps with customizing the look. Low maintenance is required, other than sealing and occasional cleaning. It is less expensive than other decorative techniques, resistant to heavy traffic and extreme weather conditions.
